First off, I have to write that I love all of my children deeply. I would do anything for all three of them. There are no favorites, there never will be. Each child is unique, special, and truly a gift from God. God loaned them to us and we are required to train them up in the Lord. All three have a personal relationship with Jesus; but our job is not done, and never will be. Which brings up Israel. During these next few weeks in this blog, I will be focusing on my time with Nicole.
The name of this blog for the next few weeks is "Dancing with Cinderella in Israel". The title was inspired from the lyrics of a Steven Curtis Chapman song entitled, "Cinderella" (Click here to listen). Since Nicole is our first born and has been dating Aaron, a great Christian guy (her prince?) for well over a year now, chances are good that she may be the first to leave our nest. Competing for quality time with her is already a reality. The days and weeks fly by like minutes and the time is drawing near when I will no longer be the man Nicole prefers to "dance" with. The clock will strike midnight - and she will be gone. Which is why, as you can imagine, I so deeply cherish today.
Here are the lyrics:
She spins and she sways
To whatever song plays
Without a care in the world
And I'm sitting here wearing
The weight of the world on my shoulders
It's been a long day
And there's still work to do
She's pulling at me
Saying "Dad, I need you
There's a ball at the castle
And I've been invited
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone...
She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed
She wants to know if I approve of the dress
She says, "Dad, the prom is just one week away
And I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone
She will be gone
Well, she came home today with a ring on her hand
Just glowing and telling us all they had planned
She says, "Dad, the wedding's still six months away
But I need to practice my dancing
Oh, please, Daddy, please?"
So I will dance with Cinderella
While she is here in my arms
'Cause I know something the prince never knew
Oh, I will dance with Cinderella
I don't want to miss even one song
'Cause all too soon the clock will strike midnight
And she'll be gone

2008 Holy Land Tour
Wow, how time flies! Close to one year ago my daughter Nicole and I decided to go to Israel in celebration of her graduation from high school. Going to Israel was a dream of Nicole's for quite some time and I also thought it would be fascinating to see the Holy Land. Just imagine, to be able to see and experience the area where Jesus walked, talked, healed, performed miracles, and ultimately gave his life for you and me. I anticipate that our experience there will be life-altering.
I'm also looking forward to spending some time alone with Nicole. She's an adventurer and a go-getter. We are going to experience all Israel has to offer, except maybe eating fish that still has a head and tail attached! I'll post a picture of that "appetizing" meal when the day comes. I am told they serve fish like that at a place near where Peter's house is located. I'd rather have a fake fish stick than to have my meal staring back at me.
I plan to update this blog daily in Israel to let you know what we have seen and visited. I hope you can capture just a little bit of what we are experiencing through this blog. Keep in mind, the Middle East has recently experienced internet outages due to cut lines so we will have to see if a daily post is too aggressive. I hope not.
We will be leaving for Israel on March 3, 2008 and begin our trek home on March 12, 2008.
Talk to you soon!
